Road Safety: School Patrol Handout

School Patrol Handout aims to ensure road safety around the school zone through community participation. In Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, the government and traffic police launched a ‘School Police’ program in 2015 whereby parents take turns as crossing supervisors around schools. For some city center schools, the program has been successful in raising the profile of road safety and increasing driver awareness.

Through implementing Road Safety Project with EASST, GerHub noticed there is an absence of instructions on roles, and responsibilities as well as ensuring the safety of school patrol – which is a community engagement initiative. This handout is a step-by-step guide for parents, guardians, and volunteers including safety checklists, do’s and don’ts, educational information about the traffic police, and frequently asked questions and answers.

Any school can adopt the School Patrol initiative and use this handout as a reference and guidebook.
