Activity: Dairy Making & Traditional Mongolian Fashion Experience; Ger Visit Host (Walking Tour & Ger Visit)
About: Nansalmaa spent 24 years working as a herder and raising her three children in the Bulgan Province of Mongolia. As a herder, Nansalmaa became particularly skilled in wool-rolling and sewing. Upon moving to Ulaanbaatar in 2017, Nansalmaa utilized her skills to transition from a full-time herder to seamstress specializing in sheep and goat-wool deels (traditional Mongolian garment).
Nansalmaa became a Felt City host in May of 2023 and has hosted over 100 tourists in her home for meals, dairy-making demonstrations, cooking classes, and warm conversation. Enjoy Nansalmaa’s hospitality when you book the Dairy Making & Traditional Mongolian Fashion Experience!
Quote from host: “Thanks to the Community Based Tourism initiative, I have been able to expand my sewing business from a one-woman show to a three-person business. I also bought my youngest daughter’s wedding jewelry with the extra income last summer. I have been telling all my relatives and neighbors about this project!”
