Let’s Read
Why?
The Let’s Read project aims to empower ger area residents, especially parents and caregivers to engage with their children through creative, fun, and interactive reading activities. This initiative bridges developmental gaps before children start mandatory schooling, helping them be better prepared for their educational journey. This is especially important in the ger area communities where resources are often scarce, as many Mongolian children lag behind on international development indicators when they start school at age 5.

Impact
In 2023
70
in-person storytime reading sessions and workshops organized.
Over
887 children
345 adults
reached.
38
travelling packages distributed to 293 children.
We also co-created “Our Hub” (Манай Хотол in Mongolian), the first children’s book about life in the ger district with the community members, and installed two book vending machines to improve access to quality books in ger areas.

I started attending the reading hours in the spring of 2022. A year later, I witnessed my daughters’ remarkable social skills development, so I wanted to join as a community reader to help more children develop a love for reading. Because of Let’s Read, I can now answer my daughters’ questions and incorporate examples from my own experiences to explain new concepts. If given the opportunity, I am eager to participate in next year’s community reading program as well.”
