The School Zone Road Safety Project aims to improve road safety in school zones through cost-effective, community-driven solutions. Road safety is critical in Mongolia, especially in school zones, as traffic accidents are a leading cause of child fatalities.

In 2022, we improved road safety at the Hugjil Complex School with community-led initiatives, concluded with a “street makeover” work around the school, including a new pedestrian crossing, new road signs, a dedicated ‘kiss and drop’ zone, and barriers to protect pedestrians from road traffic.

We scaled up the project to schools #37 and #140 and conducted social media awareness campaigns to improve road safety.

Impact

GerHub played an active role by raising awareness through informative posters at Schools #37 and #140, producing social media videos, and holding interactive workshops, engaging 72 community members, including local police, officials, and school administrators.

I realized the importance of focusing on the solutions we have right now, rather than getting absorbed in the current problems”

Project Participant

Our project continues to implement practical, community-led improvements to enhance school zone safety. From introducing low-cost infrastructure solutions to engaging local stakeholders, we are working toward creating safer, more accessible school environments for children.
