About the program

The program intends to provide a much needed creative training opportunity for high schoolers who want to gain meaningful extracurricular experience and skills necessary to succeed in the 21st century: creativity, collaboration, communication, critical thinking (4Cs).

The program aims to equip and inspire the participants with the tools and mindset to become problem solvers and innovators who have creative confidence to undertake local challenges while considering global insights. By utilizing bricks as a primary tool for demonstration and experimentation, the program will explore STEAM subjects with an emphasis on architecture and urban planning.

Through a selection process, the pilot program will select 15 high school students to participate in a 9-month long program from October 2018 to June 2019. The program will consist of the following 3 main components:

1. Field visits

Participants will visit key places in the city to expand their understanding of city life and their individual role in the city’s development. Ger area development will be a key theme that will be discussed throughout the program duration.

2. Skills Development Workshops

Throughout the program, students will attend various workshops and seminars to improve their skills in design thinking, project management, teamwork, and critical thinking. The workshops will be organized in tandem with other project activities in ways to apply their learning to action.

3. Student-led STEAM project

The aim of the student-led Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) project is to explore the subjects, develop and deliver curricula that involve creative play to target-age groups in select schools and community spaces located in the ger areas.

Bricks will be used as the primary tool to develop and deliver curricula. This component will provide participants with the opportunity to work in teams, think creatively about curriculum development and delivery, and also manage projects that have meaningful impact.
